Your Puppy’s First Vet Visit: What to Bring and What to Ask

Booking a vet visit in your puppy’s first week does two important things: it confirms your puppy is healthy and it starts the relationship with the person who will guide their care for years.

Every Everpine puppy goes home vet-checked, with a health certificate and age-appropriate vaccination and deworming records. Your own vet visit is not about starting from scratch. It is about establishing local care and a baseline.

What to bring

• All the paperwork we send home: health records, vaccination and deworming history, and microchip details.
• A stool sample if your vet asks, so they can check for parasites.
• A list of questions, written down so nothing is forgotten in the excitement.
• A familiar towel or toy to keep your puppy settled in a new place.

Questions worth asking

• What is the vaccination and booster schedule from here, and when is it safe to socialize in public?
• When and how should we handle spaying or neutering for this breed and size?
• What is a healthy weight and body condition for my puppy, and how do we keep them there?
• What parasite prevention do you recommend for our area and season?
• Any breed-specific advice? Dental care for small mouths, or back care for a Dachshund, for example.

What the vet will check

Expect a nose-to-tail exam: heart and lungs, eyes and ears, teeth and bite, joints, weight and general condition. This visit also confirms the microchip and sets up your records locally so everything is in one place.
