Dachshund Puppy Price: What It Actually Costs

A Dachshund puppy from us is $1,400 to $1,500. Across the wider market the advertised range is far broader, and the reasons for that are worth understanding before you compare two listings.

Price is the question people feel least comfortable asking and most need answered. So here is ours in plain figures, what sits behind it, and what the dog will cost you after the purchase price is paid.

What we charge

Item Cost
Dachshund puppy $1,400 to $1,500
Delivery within the lower 48 Typically $150 to $300
Pickup reservation deposit 60% of the puppy price; delivery reservations require full puppy price plus delivery fee

The puppy price includes the veterinary health certificate, dated vaccination and deworming records, microchip, AKC registration, the welcome kit and feeding plan, and our written 2-year genetic health guarantee. For Portland pickup, a 60% deposit can hold your puppy for up to thirty days, with the balance due before collection. For delivery, the full puppy price plus the confirmed delivery fee are required to reserve. There are no fees we have not listed here.

Why Dachshund prices vary so much elsewhere

Advertised prices for Dachshund puppies in the United States commonly run from around a thousand dollars to several thousand. The spread is not random. These are the factors that move it, in rough order of influence.

  • Size. Miniatures are in higher demand than standards and are usually priced above them.
  • Coat variety. Longhaired and wirehaired Dachshunds are less common than smooths and often carry a premium.
  • Color and pattern. Dapple, piebald, blue and English cream all attract higher asking prices. This is fashion rather than quality, and it is where the market is least rational. A pattern premium is worth nothing to the dog.
  • Registration and pedigree. Show lines and titled ancestors push prices up. For a companion home this makes very little practical difference. We have explained what papers actually mean here.
  • What is included. Two listings at the same price are not comparable if one includes veterinary work, a microchip and a written guarantee and the other does not.
A note on cheap Dachshund puppies

Prices far below the market usually mean one of three things: costs have been cut somewhere you will pay for later, the price excludes things you assumed were included, or the puppy does not exist. If a figure looks too good, ask for a live video call before anything else. How to choose a responsible breeder lists the rest of the checks.

What a Dachshund costs after you bring it home

The purchase price is the smaller number. These are typical first-year figures in the United States, and they vary a good deal by region.

Item First-year estimate
Food $250 to $450
Routine veterinary care and preventatives $400 to $800
Spay or neuter $200 to $600
Crate, bed, harness, bowls, toys $200 to $400
Grooming $0 to $300, depending entirely on coat
Pet insurance $250 to $600

Two costs that are specific to this breed

Grooming depends heavily on coat. A smooth Dachshund needs almost nothing: a rubber mitt and a bath now and then. A longhaired Dachshund needs regular brushing and a tidy-up every couple of months. A wirehaired Dachshund needs hand-stripping by a groomer who knows wire coats, which is the most expensive of the three and the hardest to find. Check which coat your puppy has before you budget. Our guide to Dachshund coats covers the differences.

Back protection is not optional. The breed is prone to disc disease, and the cost of surgery for it runs into thousands. Ramps or steps for furniture, a harness instead of a neck collar, and keeping weight down are all cheap. Insurance taken out before any symptoms appear is the other sensible move, because pre-existing conditions are excluded once they are on record. The breed guide goes into the daily habits.

Key takeaways
  • Ours are $1,400 to $1,500, plus delivery of roughly $150 to $300.
  • Compare what is included, not just the headline figure.
  • Colour premiums are fashion. Dapple and cream cost more without being better dogs.
  • Budget for coat and for backs. Both are breed-specific and both are predictable.

Ownership cost figures are general estimates and vary widely by region and by individual dog. Your veterinarian and your insurer are the right sources for figures specific to you.

Comparing the total cost, not just the Dachshund price

The advertised price is only one part of the decision. Ask for a current, itemized quote that includes the specific Dachshund puppy, delivery to your state and what is provided at homecoming. Then plan for ongoing veterinary care, safe home arrangements and a routine that protects a Dachshund’s back. Coat and pattern are easy to compare in photographs; temperament, health records and appropriate fit need a closer conversation.

The figures above describe Everpine’s published pricing at the time of writing and may vary by puppy. Browse the current available puppies to choose one that fits your household, then inquire for the applicable price and delivery information.
